Before You Build Your Fantasy World, Read This

If I could go back to the beginning of writing about the world where my characters live, I would tell myself this one little thing:

“Write everything you can, every little detail that you think of.

Don’t try to make all of it an eloquent sentence, but don’t erase the eloquent sentences just because you think someone else would edit them out.

Write for days and weeks and draw, paint, dream, search images, listen to music until you can see that world like it’s right behind your eyes every time they close.

Whatever you do, never let yourself edit while you’re still in that initial creation process.

And good job. This is hard work that takes a lot of internal discipline. And everyone is waiting to visit the amazing world you’re creating.”
