Hi, I’m Carissa, and it has been A WHOLE DRAFT since I edited my writing.
That’s right. I finished a whole first draft in about a month, because I did not edit. How did I accomplish this thing so contrary to my normal writing MO?
I got a writing coach!
And it was the best thing I could possibly have done for my writing. My coach kept reminding me that the first draft was about getting EVERYTHING out there, all the blobs of paint – NOT creating the masterpiece out of thin air. He helped me create a specific vision for how to move forward crafting the book, and gave me goals to work on. Number one being, actually writing a draft.
So that’s how I moved from our last episode of P.E.A. to a huge, crazy first draft that I’ll be tackling after a short break.
If you’re still stumbling into the premature editing/failure cycle, maybe a coaching program could be the personalized approach to get you moving forward!
But before you do, join me in our Premature Editor’s prayer:
God, grant me the Serenity, to accept the things I shouldn’t change in my writing…at least, not yet.
